Suspected herdsmen attack communities in Kaduna State August 5-6

08/07/2020 (Nigeria) - At least 19 people were killed as suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked several communities in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State on Wednesday, August 5, and Thursday, August 6. The attacks reportedly took place in the Apuiashyim, Atak'mawei, Kibori, Kurmin-Masara, and Magamiya villages in Zangon Kataf LGA. According to media sources, the attacks took place despite a 24-hour curfew imposed in Kaduna state by local authorities. At approximately 23:00 (local time) on Wednesday, the armed herdsmen began storming villages and shooting sporadically at houses in the area. Several houses were also burned down by the assailants. Many others were wounded in the spate of attacks. Additional security personnel have been deployed to the area. Further details of the attacks, including the cause, were not yet verified.
Further attacks and counter security operations are possible in the region over the near term.
