Intercommunal clashes result in fatalities in Garbatulla August 4

08/06/2020 (Kenya) - At least two people were killed and four others were wounded following an exchange of fire between two herding communities on Tuesday, August 4, on the border of Isiolo and Garissa counties in Garbatulla (Isiolo county). The motive of the attack is not yet known though media sources suggest a recent attack which resulted in three people from Garissa being gunned down by unknown people has heightened tensions.
Local police have reportedly been deployed to the area in an attempt to calm tensions, and a heightened security presence should be anticipated in the coming days. Further clashes are possible in the near term.
Those in the area are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
