08/06/2020 (France) - Police are responding to a security incident in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime department; Normandy region) on Thursday, August 6, after a bank robber reportedly took several hostages. The incident occurred at the BRED-Banque Populaire branch on Boulevard de Strasbourg and began at approximately 17:00 (local time). A large police presence has been deployed to the scene and a stand off with the perpetrator has reportedly ensued. Security forces have cordoned off the area. No injuries have been reported as of 19:00.
Due to the heightened security presence and police cordons, significant disruption is expected in the vicinity of the incident over the coming hours.
Individuals are advised to avoid the vicinity of the incident until security forces have confirmed it is safe to return, monitor the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
