08/06/2020 (France) - Meteo France has warned that temperatures will rise sharply on Thursday, August 6, and high temperatures will continue across much of the country into next week. On Thursday from the southwest to north of the Paris region temperatures could reach 34 to 37°C (93 to 99°F). Thirty-nine departments are under a "yellow" heatwave warning on Thursday and Paris authorities have reportedly activated their level 3 heatwave plan, which includes restricting the types of vehicles allowed on the region's roads to stem pollution levels. Temperatures will rise again on Friday, August 7, with maximums of 35 to 40°C (95 to 104°F) for all bar coastal and mountainous border regions. Temperatures will drop slightly in the west on Saturday, August 8, but will remain high in eastern areas through the weekend. The hot weather is forecast to last until at least Wednesday, August 12, when more stormy weather is forecast to come in from the west.
The hot weather increases the threat of forest fires, pollution, and other hazards. The excessive heat can also cause heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other health issues, which may cause emergency services' resources to become stretched.

Individuals in France are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid strenuous activities or spending time outdoors, particularly during midday, wear loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and avoid dehydrating liquids, such as alcoholic, sugary, or caffeinated drinks, and seek immediate medical attention if exhibiting symptoms of heat stroke, such as nausea, confusion, headache, rapid and strong pulse, and dry skin.
