Fatal inter-communal clashes in Kasaï-Central province August 3

08/05/2020 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - Two people were killed and several houses burned down during clashes between ethnic groups in Bakwankenge (Kasaï-Central province) on Monday night (local time), August 3. The clashes were between communities from the Bolempo group in Mweka and the Bena Milombe group in Demba. The armed clashes reportedly broke out over a land dispute. Additional security personnel were deployed to the area following the incident and several residents fled into the bush following the clashes.
Further inter-communal violence is possible in the area over the near-term.

Individuals in Kasaï-Central province are advised to monitor developments and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
