Tropical Depression Imelda Causes Flash Flooding in Southeastern Texas

09/19/2019 (United States) - International media sources have reported that Tropical Depression Imelda has caused serious flash flooding in southeastern Texas on Thursday, 19 September. Reports state that roads have been submerged and homes flooded, with a hospital in Winnie having been evacuated. The counties most affected are reported to be Chambers and Jefferson counties, and its communities such as Beaumont and Winnie. The three-day total of inches of rain has reached as high as 25-35 inches (63-89cm) in some places. In Beaumont, police have advised people to shelter in place and seek high group. Rescue operations are currently underway for those in need of assistance.

Members in flood-affected areas should monitor local media sources for further updates and heed any directives issued by local authorities. Minimise time spent in low-lying flood-prone areas and on unstable slopes susceptible to landslides. Drivers should exercise a heightened degree of caution in flood-affected areas due to likely hazardous conditions caused by flooding and debris.
