09/18/2019 (Egypt) - According to local media sources, at least two soldiers were killed and eight others injured in a series of attacks by militants from a local Islamic State (IS) affiliated group in North Sinai governorate on Tuesday, 17 September. The militants reportedly attacked an army vehicle with an improvised explosive device (IED) near the village of Al-Shallaq, as well as attacked other army positions in the village of Qabr Umair, near the city of Sheikh Zuweid, before being driven off by security forces.
Due to the threat of militancy and continued security operations in the North Sinai region, members with critical travel needs should subject all their movements to a location-specific threat assessment. Members are advised to conduct strict risk management procedures in coordination with a trusted security provider. Travellers should minimise the time spent in the vicinity of security forces patrols and positions, as these are regularly targeted in attacks.
