Tropical Storm Jerry Forms in Atlantic; Expected to Become a Hurricane by Weekend

09/18/2019 (United States) - The National Hurricane Center in an advisory issued at 0900 UTC on Wednesday, 18 September, has reported that Tropical Storm Jerry has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and is expected to become a hurricane by the weekend. Jerry strengthened from a depression into a tropical storm early in the morning and is currently 950 miles (1,528 km) east of the Leeward Islands. The current sustained winds are at 45mph (72km/h) and are moving west-northwest at 13mph (21 km/h). It is expected to reach hurricane strength by Thursday evening. Further forecast updates are expected.
