09/18/2019 (Kenya) - Local media outlets report on Wednesday, 18 September, that police have used tear gas to disperse protesters in support of an embattled politician after attempts to enter the County Assembly in Kisumu. The former politician, Olyango Oloo, was replaced last week following allegations of corruption in relation to ongoing construction projects in the area. A large police presence remains in the area in attempts to restore order.

Members in Kisumu are advised to avoid the vicinity of any protests and political gatherings in order to mitigate against exposure to incidental violence and heavy-handed police crowd dispersal measures. Members should monitor local media sources for updates on any further unrest and related disruption in their area of operations. Heed any directives issued by the authorities.
