09/17/2019 (Iraq) - According to local media sources, the Turkish Ministry of Defence has announced that military aircraft have carried out several airstrikes against Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) positions in the Gara area of Duhok governorate on Monday, 16 September. The Ministry claimed that at least three PKK militants were killed in the airstrikes. Turkey has in recent months carried out regular strikes against PKK militants in northern Iraq.

The Iraq-Turkey border remains a focal point of the Turkish and Kurdish conflict and as such any non-essential travel to the area should be avoided. Any operationally-critical deployments in the area should ensure that all movements are subject to stringent journey management procedures and conducted in liaison with local authorities and security forces and avoid areas of ongoing security operations.
