09/17/2019 (Libya) - International media outlets on Monday, 16 September, report that the eastern-based contingent of the Libyan National Army (LNA) mounted airstrikes on the central city of Sirte over the weekend. The LNA has been attempting to take Tripoli since April and the attack on Sirte, some 280 miles (450km) away, demonstrates the ever-increasing advancement towards the capital from the Khalifa Haftar-backed troops.

Due to the ongoing conflict, Libya remains an extremely high-risk environment, and all non-essential travel to the country should be avoided. Members undertaking operationally critical deployments to Libya are advised to monitor local media and to liaise with local authorities in order to increase situational awareness and be aware of areas of high levels of conflict or particularly unstable zones.
