Casualties Reported in Kyrgyz-Tajik Border Clashes

09/17/2019 (Tajikistan) - Foreign media outlets report on Tuesday, 17 September, that a Kyrgyz soldier was killed and several others wounded on both sides of the border in an overnight shootout. Security forces on both sides blamed the clashes on each other following the disputed illegal construction near the Tajik village of Ovchi-Kalacha, located on the border between Tajikistan's northern Sughd province and Kyrgyzstan's western Batken region.

Members are advised to maintain a heightened sense of situational awareness of travelling in the area and report any suspicious items or activity to security forces immediately. Members are further advised to monitor local media for any further operations by security forces related to the incident and any resultant travel disruptions.
