09/16/2019 (Georgia) - According to media sources, a protest will be held in Sukhumi, the de-facto capital of the breakaway separatist region of Abkhazia, on Tuesday, 17 September, over the recent presidential election. Supporters of opposition candidate Alkhas Kvitsinia, of the Amtsakhara party, will gather at 1100hrs (0700 UTC) to protest against the electoral commission's decision to declare victory for incumbent Raul Khajimba. The gathering will reportedly coincide with a court hearing and is likely to take place outside the High Court.

Members are advised to avoid any large crowds and protests due to the potential for violent crowd behaviour and heavy-handed police crowd dispersal measures. Travellers are further advised to review overland travel arrangements in light of potential disruptions resulting from a possible heightened security presence.
