09/16/2019 (Libya) - According to social media sources, military aircraft have conducted an airstrike at Mitiga International Airport (MJI) in the early hours of Monday morning, 16 September. Sources indicate the airstrike has been carried out by forces of the Libyan National Army (LNA) and are targeting foreign military jets at the airbase, although this has not been confirmed. There has been no confirmation of any casualties or damage, or whether the airport has ceased operations. Further information is awaited.

Due to the ongoing conflict, Libya remains an extremely high-risk environment, and all non-essential travel to the country should be avoided. Members undertaking operationally critical deployments to Libya are advised to monitor local media and to liaise with local authorities in order to increase situational awareness and be aware of areas of high levels of conflict or particularly unstable zones. Members flying via MJI are advised to contact their flight provider in order to remain appraised of potential disruptions to their journeys.
