Update: Soldiers Repel Boko Haram Attack on University of Maiduguri, Borno State

09/16/2019 (Nigeria) - Following earlier reports of a Boko Haram attack on the University of Maiduguri on Sunday night, 15 September, local media sources are reporting that the attack has been successfully repelled by security forces. Gunshots reportedly went on for an hour and a half as soldiers and other security personnel fought with the militants, before finally ceasing around 2300hrs (2200 UTC). No casualties have been reported.

Members in Borno state are advised to monitor local media outlets for further updates on the incident and should heed all directives issued by authorities. Operationally-critical travel in rural areas should be conducted only following a comprehensive localised threat assessment. Travellers should regularly review security management protocols to ensure that they remain commensurate with the evolving local threat environment.
