09/16/2019 (Nigeria) - Local media outlets have reported on Monday, 16 September, that there have been five kidnapping incidents reported in Abuja in the past 24-hours. Of those kidnapped, one is reported to be a lecturer at Baze University, along with two other students. A separate incident involving a young woman was also reported at around 2030hrs (1930 UTC) near Habiza Plaza in Maitama, with another incident having been recorded in Asokoro at a grocery store. The kidnappers are yet to have established contact with authorities/immediate family.

Due to the risk of kidnap for ransom, travellers are advised to exercise a heightened level of situational awareness when travelling, especially in unfamiliar environments. In order to reduce the risk of kidnapping, travellers should maintain a low profile, keep travel itineraries discreet, and vary travel routines, including routes, timings and vehicles. Any suspicious activity should be immediately reported to the police.
