Reports of Shots Fired and Tear Gas Deployed in Latest Unrest in Carrefour

09/16/2019 (Haiti) - According to incoming social media feeds on Monday, 16 September, there are reports of the Haitian National Police (PNH) utilising live fire and tear gas in efforts to disperse protesters within the Carrefour area of Port-au-Prince. There are also reports of ongoing unrest in the cities of Les Cayes and Mirebalais. It is not immediately clear what has prompted the latest demonstrations.

Members operating in Haiti are advised to avoid the vicinity of protests, and to avoid political gatherings in order to mitigate against unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed police response. Monitor local media sources for further developments and potential disruption.
