09/15/2019 (Japan) - According to local media sources on Friday, 13 September, residents in Chiba prefecture could be facing days of blackouts following the damage caused by Typhoon Faxai, which hit the prefecture at the start of the week. Industry minister Isshu Sugawara said on Friday that blackouts could last a week or longer, while Tepco Power Grid Inc. said they could last another two weeks. 185,000 households are still without power in the prefecture, down from a peak of 935,000 on Monday, 9 September. Water supply is also an issue, with around 27,000 households still without water on Friday. The electricity outages are preventing the pumping up of groundwater in some areas. Self-Defense Forces personnel are bringing in tankers of water to the worst-hit areas.

Members in the region are advised to anticipate further disruption to power and water supplies in the coming days and should review business continuity measures in light of the supply issues. Monitor local media reports for further updates on the availability of local services.
