09/15/2019 (El Salvador) - According to media sources, additional security personnel were deployed to the country's land border and ports of entry on Friday, 13 September. While official numbers have not been announced, local media reported that an extra 800 police officers and 300 immigration officials had been deployed. Initial patrols began at the La Hachadura border crossing, Ahuachapan department, with Guatemala. The authorities said the measure had been implemented to combat illegal immigration and organised crime.
Members are advised to anticipate delays at land borders and ports of entry amid the enhanced security measures, and additional time should be allocated if conducting overland travel. Any suspicious activity should be immediately reported to authorities.
