Dozens of Tourists Evacuated due to Wildfire in Lourdata, Kefalonia

09/15/2019 (Greece) - According to local media sources, a wildfire near a residential area in the Lourdata area of Kefalonia led to hotels and other tourist accommodation being evacuated as a precautionary measure on Saturday, 14 September. Dozens of tourists were taken to a beach by bus while fire crews battled the blaze from the land and the air. The fire spread fast due to strong winds, but has reportedly been partially controlled.

Members in the area are advised to avoid the vicinity of the fire due to the ongoing response. Travellers should monitor local media for the latest updates on the fire and any associated travel disruption. Those operating in close vicinity to the fire are advised to keep all windows and doors shut to reduce the risk of harmful smoke inhalation and should strictly adhere to any directives issued by local authorities, including evacuation.
