Security Forces Conduct Search Operation for Maoist Rebels in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra State

09/15/2019 (India) - According to local media reports, security forces have killed at least two Maoist rebels on Sunday, 15 September, in an encounter in the Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra state. A further six rebels were injured. Security forces also reportedly seized weapons and ammunition during their operation. The search operation allegedly began on Sunday morning, following intelligence received regarding the Maoist hideout in the area. Reports indicate that the search operation is ongoing in the forest area.

Members in Gadchiroli are advised to avoid the area in the immediate term, maintain a heightened level of situational awareness and monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any security operations in the area. Furthermore, travellers should subject all overland travel to a localised threat assessment and minimise time spent in the vicinity of security forces vehicles, patrols and bases as well as government infrastructure which may be targeted by rebel attacks. Any suspicious items or activity should be immediately reported to security forces.
