09/15/2019 (Hong Kong) - According to international media outlets, Hong Kong police forces have fired water cannons and tear gas in an attempt to disperse protesters throwing petrol bombs and bricks near the Legislative Council building and central government offices on Sunday, 15 September, in Admiralty. Reports indicate the protesters threw bricks at police outside the nearby Chinese People's Liberation Army base in the city and set fire to banners. Further police action and intervention has been reported elsewhere including in Causeway Bay. Reports on social media outlets suggest a number of MTR stations have closed including Wanchai and Admiralty stations. Additional overland disruption should be anticipated throughout the day.
Members in Hong Kong should monitor local media sources for updates on the ongoing demonstration and associated disruption. Travellers are advised to avoid the vicinity of all political gatherings and demonstrations in order to minimise the risk of exposure to unruly crowd behaviour and heavy-handed police responses. Members with overland travel plans should review itineraries and amend them accordingly to avoid the overland delays associated with the protests.
