09/14/2019 (United Kingdom) - Social media reports suggest hundreds of people have gathered to protest in Glasgow on Saturday, 14 September. The demonstration taking place outside the City Chambers at George Square is a response to the city council's decision to ban multiple republican and loyalist marches which were planned to take place over Saturday and Sunday, 15 September. Four Loyalist marches and an Irish Republican parade were banned by the council after a meeting on Wednesday, 11 September, due to violent sectarian clashes which occurred on the two previous weekends. The city council reportedly rejected the application on the grounds of likely unrest and violence at the events. Reports suggest the Scottish Protestant Against Discrimination group, backed by the Orange order, organised a protest outside the City Chambers to begin at 1000hrs (0900 UTC).

Members in Glasgow are advised to avoid the vicinity of any protests in order to limit the chances of being affected by unruly crowd behaviour and opportunistic crime. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further protest activity and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
