09/14/2019 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - According to local media sources, a peaceful protest has been planned to take place in Beni, North Kivu province, on Saturday, 14 September, by the Fight for Change/Lutte pour le Changement (LUCHA) civil society group. Participants plan to march from Nyamwisi roundabout on Rond-point du 30 Juin to the City Hall over perceived government inaction to tackle insecurity in the region. Associated disruption should be anticipated in the vicinity of the march.
Members are advised to avoid any demonstrations and political gatherings due to the risk of exposure to incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed police responses. Monitor local media sources for information on the protest and associated disruption.
