09/14/2019 (Mexico) - Heightened security measures and associated disruption should be anticipated on Sunday, 15 September, and Monday, 16 September, due to Independence Day celebrations taking place nationwide. In Mexico City, festivities will reportedly begin at the Plaza de la Constitucion at 1600hrs (2100 UTC) on Sunday, and continue through to Monday. A military parade has been organised on Monday, Independence Day, at 1000hrs (1500 UTC) from Plaza de la Constitucion and proceed down Paseo de la Reforma to the Auditorio Nacional. Reports indicate that flight operations will be suspended from Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX) between 1000-1315hrs (1500-1815 UTC) on 16 September, in order to facilitate the parade which the Mexican Air Force are participating in. Parades and festivities will likely take place in urban centres nationwide.

Members in Mexico should be aware of the increased numbers of people attending the celebration and maintain vigilance due to risks associated with large gatherings and celebrations such as petty crime and unruly behaviour. Those planning to travel via or into MEX on 16 September are advised to contact their flight operator to check the status of their flight. Anticipate potential flight delays during and in the hours following the parade. Monitor local media for updates on events, as well as travel disruption updates.
