09/14/2019 (Benin) - The civil society group Urgence Panafricaniste has reportedly called for a demonstration to be held in Cotonou on Saturday, 14 September. The purpose of the protest is to denounce the use of the CFA franc currency, which is deemed to be part of a persisting French influence over its former colonies. Supporters of the group intend to gather at Place de l'Etoile Rouge at 1500hrs (1400UTC). Similar protests have been planned by the group in other former French colonies on Saturday as well.

Members in Cotonou are advised to avoid the vicinity of all demonstrations and political gatherings due to the risk of exposure to violent unrest and police crowd dispersal measures. Members are further advised to anticipate localised travel disruptions and adjust journey plans accordingly.
