09/13/2019 (South Korea) - According to media sources, crew members of Korea Train Express (KTX) and the Super Rapid Train (SRT) began nationwide strike action on Wednesday, 11 September, calling for a wage increase and direct employment by the state-run railway operator Korail, which both KTX and SRT fall under. The strike is scheduled to last through Monday, 16 September. Though maintenance of minimum levels of train service is required, reduced services, delays, and cancellations are expected on KTX and SRT rail services across the country through Monday.

Members in the area should anticipate a surge in demand for alternative means of transport during the strike, leading to disruption to overland travel throughout the country. Members are advised to revise journey plans accordingly in order to minimise the impact on business continuity. Travellers are advised to avoid the vicinity of any large gatherings or demonstrations associated with the strike in order to reduce the risk of exposure to incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy handed police response. Monitor local media and news for further information.
