09/13/2019 (United Kingdom) - According to international media sources, climate change activists have said that they will go ahead with plans to disrupt London Heathrow Airport (LHR) by flying drones over its airspace on Friday morning, 13 September. The protest action will take place despite the arrest of five of the 'Heathrow Pause' groups' members in a pre-emptive move by London police on Thursday, 12 September. The five suspects were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a public nuisance in relation to Heathrow airport. The group has said it has up to 70 more pilots for the drones and the protest would go ahead as planned. Drone sightings at Gatwick Airport (LGW) last December led to around 1,000 flight cancellations, however, police and airport officials have said that they have plans in place and do not expect the same disruption.
Members due to fly via LHR on Friday are advised to check the status of their flights with their provider prior to departure in case of any disruption associated with the protest action. Monitor local media sources for further information regarding the latest situation at the airport.
