Multiple Fatalities following Road Accident in Loumia, Chari-Baguirmi

09/13/2019 (Chad) - According to regional media outlets on Friday, 13 September, at least 13 people have been killed and several others injured following a road traffic accident in Loumia, Chari-Baguirmi region. It is indicated that a bus carrying 55 travellers veered off the road whilst travelling between Moundou, Logone Occidental, and the capital N'Djamena. The cause of the accident is yet to determined, however, local sources suggest that the driver fled the scene shortly after the crash.

Vehicular accidents are frequent in Chad due to inadequate road maintenance in rural areas, poor driver discipline and limited enforcement of traffic rules. Those intending to conduct overland travel are advised to ensure that they utilise the services of a reputable service provider, checking safety standards and vehicle serviceability.
