09/13/2019 (Nigeria) - The Civil Society group Urgence Panafricaniste has reportedly called for a demonstration to be held in Abuja on Saturday, 14 September, to denounce the use of the CFA franc currency and denounce what they perceive as persisting French influence over its former colonies. According to reports on social media outlets, protesters are expected to gather at 0945hrs (0845 UTC) in front of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) building in Asokoro district, Abuja. A heightened security presence and localised transportation disruption are likely in the vicinity of the protest.

Members in Abuja are advised to avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in order to reduce the risk of exposure to unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed police responses. Monitor local media for information on the protest and associated disruption, and heed all directives issued by authorities.
