02/18/2019 (Netherlands) - According to regional media sources on Monday, 18 February, Russian journalist, Yelena Milashina, and human rights activist, Milana Bakhayeva, were arrested earlier this morning at Schiphol Airport (AMS), for currently unknown reasons. The pair were allegedly arrested upon arrival into AMS by police who refused to reveal their identities and explain why the pair were being detained. It is then reported that both of the detained had their passports and mobile phones seized during the incident. While the pair were both later released, it is still not clear as to why they were originally detained. It has since been suggested that the arrest could have occurred due to the Chechen ethnicity of activist Bakhayeva.

Members who are engaged in journalistic or activist related activities are advised to maintain a high level of situational awareness at all times. Travellers are also encouraged to monitor local news and media for further information relating to the arrest.
