02/18/2019 (Kenya) - According to international media sources, a pastor was killed on Sunday, 17 February, by assailants suspected of being from Turkana County, Sarmach, along the West Turkana-Pokot county border. West Pokot County leaders have supposedly condemned recent renewed attacks and killings in the volatile region along the border. It was also reported that roadblocks were erected along the A1 (Kitale-Lodwar) highway during Sunday, causing localised traffic delays. In recent weeks the border region has experienced an escalation of banditry attacks and cattle theft that has raised tension among communities.
Members operating in the aforementioned area are advised to exercise a heightened sense of situational awareness given the persistent threat from criminal activity and immediately report any suspicious activity to security forces. Travellers are advised to ensure that security management protocols remain commensurate with the prevailing local threat environment.
