02/18/2019 (Nigeria) - According to regional media sources on Monday, 18 February, a passenger's vessel has been attacked and robbed while carrying passengers on the Bonny River in Rivers State. It is reported that unknown armed men travelling in a separate vessel attacked the passenger boat, robbing the outboard engine and the individual passengers onboard. While it's believed at least nine similar incidents occurred in 2018, commentators on today's incident have noted that the number of attacks that go unreported is probably far higher.

Those in Rivers state are advised to monitor local media and liaise with local sources for further updates on the incident and to remain apprised of any associated security operations in the region. Due to the persistent risk from militant and criminal activity, travel in Nigeria's oil-producing regions should be subject to strict security risk management protocols and undertaken in coordination with a trusted security provider.
