02/18/2019 (Tunisia) - According to regional media sources on Monday, 18 February, work at the Gafsa Phosphate Company (GPC) mines in Metaoui, Om Laarayes and Redeyef, all of which are in Gafsa Governate, has been suspended due to a demonstration organised by its employees. Protesters have gathered outside the GPC headquarters in Gafsa, to demand better bonuses, pay and working conditions.

Travellers in Gafsa should monitor local media sources for information regarding associated protests. Members in the area are advised to avoid all demonstrations due to the risk of exposure to unruly crowd behaviour and heavy-handed police response.
