02/17/2019 (Nigeria) - According to international media sources on Sunday, 17 February, unknown gunmen reportedly killed Boniface Okloho, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, as he was on his way home from a party function. The death of Boniface comes as the Nigerian general election nears; set to take place on Saturday, 23 February, after being postponed from its original date of Saturday, 16 February. The postponement arose due to events over the past week whereby their offices were set ablaze, causing the destruction of thousands of electronic smart card readers and voting cards. However, this is mere speculation. The only statement given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was that proceeding with the election was no longer feasible and that the delay would give the commission time to address vital issues.

Members in the country are advised to remain highly vigilant and report all types of suspicious activity to the police. Keep apprised of further developments by closely monitoring local sources. Members should also be aware of election-related activity and gatherings and avoid large crowds at all times.
