02/16/2019 (Italy) - National news outlets are reporting that anti-gender violence rallies, under the umbrella of the 'One Billion Rising' movement, are planned across urban centres nationwide on Saturday, 16 February. In Rome, protestors will gather at Piazza San Silvestro at 1600hrs (1500 UTC). Demonstrations are also planned in Bologna, Genoa, Palermo and Trieste, and are likely to be well-attended but peaceful in nature. Travel delays and a heightened security presence throughout the above urban areas are likely.
Members in Rome are advised to remain clear of any gathering crowds or political demonstrations due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, opportunistic crime, and police crowd dispersal methods. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any information regarding further protests and resultant travel disruption, and heed directives issued by the authorities.
