02/16/2019 (Mali) - Local news outlets and emerging social media feeds are reporting that one Azawad Salvation Movement (MSA) fighter has been killed and three others injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) was triggered by their vehicle in Talataye, Gao region, on Friday, 15 February. The identity of the perpetrators has not yet been disclosed, but elements of the Jama'a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM) are known to operate in the area. Further news is awaited.

Members with operationally-critical travel requirements in Gao region should first conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and subject all movement to stringent security risk management procedures. Members are advised to liaise with security forces and local authorities to identify areas with ongoing security operations. Contingency measures should also be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate to the local threat environment.
