02/16/2019 (Nigeria) - International media sources reported on Saturday, 16 February, that nine people were killed, including a suicide bomber, and 15 others were injured, when suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Saturday morning. Officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have apparently evacuated some victims to the State Specialist Hospital for immediate attention. It has also been reported that more than 20 security vehicles are stationed at all the roads linking to the area, while journalists have been barred from the area. Further violence cannot be ruled out in the area, as it also transpired that there were attacks in Gajiram in Nganhzi and Bama, all local government areas (LGAs) of Borno, on Friday, 15 February, although the details remain unclear and unconfirmed.
Members with operationally-critical requirements in the area should conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and ensure that all travel is undertaken in coordination with local security forces and a trusted private security provider. Security and crisis management procedures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment.
