Armed Robbery of Expatriate in Punta Cana, La Altagracia Province

02/16/2019 (Dominican Republic) - According to international sources on Wednesday, 13 February, two unidentified armed men robbed an expatriate at an electronics store in Punta Cana, La Altagracia province. The assailants assaulted the victim after he attempted to resist the robbery, which apparently took place on Monday, 11 February. The incident highlights the risks posed by crime in the country.

Due to the risk of exposure to violent crime, travellers in Dominican Republic are advised to remain vigilant, maintain a low-profile, and refraining from displaying obvious signs of wealth. Members are advised against travelling via public transport or alone after dark. If targeted in a vehicle hijacking or armed robbery, remain calm and comply with demands made by the assailants. Where possible, clients should vary travel routines, including routes, timings and vehicles, to mitigate against targeted crime.
