02/15/2019 (Haiti) - National and local news outlets are reporting on Friday, 15 February, that demonstrations across Haiti are still ongoing, with sources stating that access to Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) is currently unavailable due to roadblocks and tyre fires. Reports state that dozens of Canadians are currently trapped in Haiti as a result of this; a matter which has been worsened by the fact that the Canadian embassy has been shut since Tuesday, 12 February. The violent protests that have occurred over the past week have claimed several lives and show no signs of relenting.
Members are advised to avoid any demonstrations due to the security risk that they pose. Any large crowds should be avoided and strong situational awareness should be maintained at all times. Travellers are also encouraged to monitor local news and media for further information relating to the protests.
