Anti-Government Demonstrations Planned in Tirana for 16 February

02/15/2019 (Albania) - According to an alert issued by the US Department of State, a planned anti-government demonstration is expected to take place in various areas of Tirana on Saturday, 16 February. Demonstrators will reportedly gather at the Zogu i Zi area (Black Eagle Square), Qyteti Studenti (Student City), Selman Stermasi Stadium, and other locations around the city in the morning, to then move towards the Prime Minister's Office. They are expected to gather in front of the Office at around 1100hrs (1000 UTC). The group intends to demonstrate against the Albanian government. The duration of the demonstration is unknown.
Members are advised to avoid any demonstrations due to the security risk that they pose. Any large crowds should be avoided and strong situational awareness should be maintained at all times. Travellers are also encouraged to monitor local news and media for further information relating to the protests.
