Cell Affiliated with IS Group Dismantled in Safi, Marrakesh-Safi Region

02/15/2019 (Morocco) - According to local media sources on Friday, 15 February, at least five people, allegedly affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group, have been arrested in Safi, Marrakesh-Safi region. A security operation has been launched and coordinated by the Central Bureau of Forensic Investigation (BCIJ). Reportedly, the detained were recruiting for IS fighting in Syria and Iraq. Even though it is not proven at this time that the cell was planning attacks, the operation highlights the still high presence of militants and cells affiliated with the IS group within the country, despite the recent efforts of Morroco's security forces.
In-country personnel are advised to report any suspicious persons, items or activity. Members should monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any security operations in their particular area and heed any directives issued by police and local authorities.
