02/15/2019 (India) - According to local media sources on Friday, 15 February, a curfew has been enacted in the Gujjar Nagar area of Jammu following violent protests against the killing of more than 40 members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) near Awantipora, Kashmir. Reports and witnesses say that a mob torched and damaged dozens of vehicles during the protests that broke out earlier in the day amid a shutdown called by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A local political official has stated that a large contingent of security forces has been deployed to the area to control the situation.

Members are advised to avoid any demonstrations due to the security risk that they pose. Any large crowds should be avoided and strong situational awareness should be maintained at all times. Travellers are also encouraged to monitor local news and media for further information relating to the protests. Members should also allow for extra travel time due to the potential for infrastructural disruption.
