02/15/2019 (Turkey) - According to international media sources on Friday, 15 February, the full opening to traffic of the Istanbul New Airport (ISL) is likely to be further delayed. It was inaugurated on 29 October, 2018 but has never reached its full operational capacity, serving only a few flights a day. The full transfer of operations from the Ataturk airport, scheduled to occur on 3 March, is expected to be postponed indefinitely. According to local media, at this time the airport cannot provide the minimum security conditions for full-scale operation. Analysts believe the decision is also caused by Turkey's financial and currency crisis, which has already pushed one of the five companies involved in the construction and management of the new infrastructure, to sell its shares.

Those intending to travel to or from Istanbul should contact their respective flight provider in order to ascertain the status of their flight. Members should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by local aviation authorities. Personnel should monitor the status of the airport transition, to keep up to date with any revised dates and changes to the airport changeovers.
