Individual Allegedly Planning Explosive Attacks Arrested in Surgut, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug

02/15/2019 (Russia) - Local media sources report that on Friday, 15 February, one individual has been arrested in Surgut, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, and was believed to be planning attacks in the city. The alleged extremist was detained during a security operation launched on Prospekt Lenina, which is now cordoned off to allow investigations and the removal of explosives discovered during the arrest. In August 2017, a religious extremist, injured eight people in Surgut before being killed by the police. The Federal Security Service (FSB) qualified the incident as a terror attack.

Members are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of further security measures, and to avoid the vicinity of the incidents due to the ongoing response and associated delays.
