Multiple Injuries after Home-Made IED Detonates near Giza Square, Cairo

02/15/2019 (Egypt) - Local media sources report that on Friday, 15 February, a home-made improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated near a mosque in the Giza Square area of Cairo during prayers, injuring at least five. The injured were reportedly two police officers and three civilians. Police have cordoned off the affected area and diverted traffic as a search for the culprits is ongoing. A statement from the Interior Ministry blamed the Muslim Brotherhood for the attack, which targeted a security checkpoint. The injured have been transferred to local hospitals.

Members in the affected area should comply with any evacuation orders issued by the authorities. Members should monitor local media sources for further information regarding the locations of affected infrastructure and facilities.
