Large Potentially Hazardous Blaze Reported in Casoria Municipality, Campania Region

02/14/2019 (Italy) - A large blaze has been reported in a factory in the Casoria municipality, Metropolitan City of Naples, region Campania, according to local media sources on Thursday, 14 February. The fire, located on via Indipendenza in the proximity of strada statale 87 Sannitica (SS87), was reported at around 0700hrs (0600 UTC). According to preliminary reports, it started in an alluminium deposit. Local authorities warned residents about the possibility of smoke and fumes to be hazardous and urged them to avoid the area. Localised disruption is to be expected due to ongoing firefighting operations. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The area is known for illegal waste disposal methods, which resulted, in the past years, in numerous residents developing illnesses and severe health conditions.

Members are advised to avoid the vicinity of the fire due to the ongoing response. Monitor local media for the latest updates on the fire and any associated travel disruption. Those operating in close vicinity to the fire are advised to keep all windows and doors shut in order to reduce the risk of harmful smoke inhalation and should strictly adhere to any directives issued by local authorities, including evacuation.
