02/14/2019 (Greece) - According to a US State Department travel advisory, a demonstration is due to take place in Thessaloniki, Greek Macedonia, from 1800hrs (1700 UTC) on Thursday, 14 February. At least 1,500 people are expected to gather at the Venizelos statue on Egnatia Street and at the Arch of Galerius, also known as Kamara, to protest against the transit of US/NATO helicopters and military equipment via the Port of Thessaloniki. After gathering, the demonstrators will likely march to the US Consulate General, continuing then towards the Port of Thessaloniki. The protest is expected to be peaceful; however, unruly crowd behaviour and clashes with security forces cannot be completely ruled out at this time. Localised disruption should be accounted for, especially along the march's expected path. Further information is awaited.

Members should avoid the vicinity of all protests and large political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and police operations. Personnel should monitor local media sources for further information on future protests and associated transport disruption.
