Update: Further Demonstrators Arrested in Khartoum; Crowd Dispersal Measures Deployed, Protesters Burn Tyres and Build Roadblock

02/14/2019 (Sudan) - According to emerging social media sources on Thursday, 14 February, demonstrations countinue in Khartoum. Unconfirmed sources report that at least 300 people have been arrested and security forces use rubber bullets, along with tear gas, to disperse crowds. Available footage suggests that demonstrators are building small makeshift roadblocks and setting tyres on fire. No casualties have officially been reported; however, further escalations of the tensions between protesters and security forces within the near term are not to be ruled out.

Members are advised to avoid any demonstrations due to the security risk that they pose. Any large crowds should be avoided and strong situational awareness should be maintained at all times. Travellers are also encouraged to monitor local news and media for further information relating to the protests.
