02/13/2019 (Sudan) - National news outlets are reporting that on Tuesday, 12 February, security agents detained a group of university professors in Khartoum who were scheduled to attend a sit-in protest at the University of Khartoum's campus. Reports state that 14 professors in total were detained, with security forces then moving to close the gates to the venue where the sit-in was supposed to take place. There are no reports of any casualties or if the arrests led to any further protests. The current status of the professors who were arrested is also unknown. Officials say 30 people have died in protest-related violence since they began on 19 December 2018, but Human Rights Watch group says at least 51 people have been killed so far.

Members are advised to avoid any demonstrations due to the security risk that they pose. Any large crowds should be avoided and strong situational awareness should be maintained at all times. Travellers are also encouraged to monitor local news and media for further information relating to the protests.
